Where I Live

Speculating on what a guy should offer (and other nonsense about dating):

  • Respect
  • Dignity for self
  • Appreciation for the simple things
  • Time (You want to meet someone but you rather spend your free time with your bros only?!)
  • Honesty (Doesn't play games and doesn't know how to read between the lines but leaves me guessing when things stop working out)
If you don't have these, you are wasting your time!

I may have started this while on a rant, but trust me I am much calmer now.  I have over thought things to death and then some; maybe I should dedicate some of this energy to real problems!

The thing about Tinder and most other dating sites or apps is that they make it easy to find people but to find something lasting takes more than using your finger to swipe right. I have gotten a fair share of matches despite the fact I am super picky with my mom's voice is in my head, I don't why the scene out there is kind of bleak. I never put all faith into these applications anyway because I don't think a few pictures and a few cute messages are going to guarantee anything. It's great if you just want to a hookup, no strings attached, in and out before things get sticky.

I lived cavalierly in my early 20s and what I used back in those days was POF and  Okcupid. POF was the greasy, dive bar compared to the hip and snazzier lounge that was Okcupid. I totally enjoyed browsing through those profiles when I started off, it was a whole new world for me. POF got boring and annoying really quickly, the features were mostly lacking and the search functions were pathetic. Okcupid on the other hand, was easier to navigate through, even when you weren't looking through profiles of guys aged whatever, you could answer questions on various topics - answers to which would then be used to calculate your compatibility compared to other guys who may have answered similarly. The flaws here would be if you didn't answer enough questions you wouldn't be matched properly and if you answered dishonestly that wouldn't help you cause either. After a while, that got annoying too and lots of guys couldn't be bothered to answer any questions which made things more difficult. As you can imagine, I stopped using that site too.

Anyhow, if dating can be equated to the way one prepares for a marathon then it is because of this - plan which marathon you want to run, how much discipline and focus you need to train and what level you want to get to. I think you get what I am saying here.

Should I give up on dating sites? Sure, save my time for better things like cooking with quinoa and learning to use Creative Suite. But on the other hand, its strangely addictive and when a stranger does decide to send you a message, it's a fun ride to see where things can go and how. I message guys too sometimes; I am not afraid to make the first move. Everyone is on Tinder or Coffee meets Bagel or whatever else is out there. I don't know what to expect; there have been a few disappointments but I don't expect to meet Mr. Right.

Maybe I sound bitter but it's tough for a girl turning 30 soon to feel super optimistic. I can only keep doing what I think works and work on myself and be the best kind of person that I can be. Things happen when you least expect it - so stop expecting. Just live your life, cherish your friends and family. Be grateful.

I really wanted to get back into this. All moments of creative self reflection are wasted if I can't pen them down.

SO starting this week, I will endeavour to post at least once a week. Hopefully as my outlook (and time management) improves, allowing me to post more interesting and less pointless discussions.

This should get me on the right track. More on that later!

Decoding song meanings

I used to be all over song titles and their meaning. lately, I turned into a flunky/ditz who can't really decipher the meaning of songs. It's easy enough to know the meaning of  J.Lo's "On The Floor" barring colloquial and pop grammar;  but how do you decode the meaning of a song titled" Rollin' in the Deep" because, that's  Deep.

I get the gist of the song, but there are specific lines that I just want to dissect into smaller segments and wonder why they were written. I like the song, its a great song, probably a modern classic. There's type of poetry in it not heard in any other song of late, and it crosses genre barriers too. It's a fun listen too even if I am upbeat cause sometimes you don't want tot hear a song like that when you're feeling too good, but this one is a note-worthy exception.

Music should be like poetry; not mindless tunes mashed up together, sometimes it seems like music directors and artists aren't really trying to work on original material, every second song is a cover or sampling of an older beat.  For example:
Enrique's " I like it" samples Lionel Richie's "All Night Long"
J. Lo's " On the Floor" samples " Lambada
And there's another one recently that's made it on the TOP 40 that samples MJ's "Human Nature" . Its called " She Ain't you" by the notorious Chris Brown.  I don't know who put him up to this, but its hardly laudable. A laughing stock for a song, I think.

!990 - 2010: Listening to the radio has become a bore, and yet I have little other option.

2014: Started using Spotify, what an awesome service! It's my new fave and alas while I don't have Premium at the moment this makes up for lack-lustre radio and the non-existent torrents I don't have time to download.

We have come a long way, first mixtapes, then CDs, then mp3s and now on-demand music streaming that is just a click away. What will it be next? I think Google might have the answer (they are watching!)

Oh man oh man oh man oh man

Another dreary day in this rain-spattered week, forecast really knows how to literally dampen a person's spirits.

I've been lazy about blogging lately, I really wanted to say something but I can't manage anything invigorating, even if I am the only one reading this :P, I have expectations!

Last night was the first night of recreational volleyball. It's a pretty big deal for me, because:
A) I've never played in any sports leagues, B) never played volleyball in a proper setting with players who actually know how to play. C) never with total strangers who could be nasty and disparage my skills (I'm literally a beginner). Well, everything went well, I wasn't very good, but I doubt it could be my fault for the team's loss.

I'm so bored at work today... time seems to stretch on endlessly and I find most things to be too boring to engage me long enough till 5... alas!

Of course, trying to play Hangman is also not allowed by the darn server here, or whatever it is that blocks gaming sites, my mind is not ready to accept this, but I gotta find something else to occupy my time...

Normalcy

What is normal? It can be a set of things most people identify with. Or its a very unusual approach that only a few can accept. When one says normal, what characteristics come to mind? I have made the mistake of saying normal many times. If I say normal it is an antonym of abnormal which is referring to mental capacities. I don't wish to refer to mental and rational functioning when I make that statement. At times, what I really mean to say is that I perceive something as average. Average refers to mediocre, middle of the pile, ordinary and so on. Its use doesn't invoke the kind of judgmental attitude saying Normal does. And there's no need for political correctness either.

Normalcy is more appropriate when referring to a larger context, such as to describe a lifestyle. But lifestyles differn so use of the word is subjective. Being subjective invites debate it seems. People don't understand that there can be a difference of opinion, even though on somethings, the verdict is very loud and clear. Debates rage on too, and there is never a clear winner in some cases.

And debates can be even more ridiculous if the basics of the arguments are not properly understood! "Cause people think they know when actually they are working off the ignorance of someone else, or the inaccuracy of sources they think are accurate.
